Well last night history was made. No not talking about Fleury's 8TH shut-out of the season putting him 1st all time amongst Penguin netminders for shutouts in a season, we're talking about how Sidney Crosby became the 1st person to take a Rob Rossi column / quote to heart and called his bluff by completely fisting the Calgary Flames last night. Apparently, Rossi said Crosby wasn't the best in the game anymore and apparently how Patrick Kane is. Crosby recorded two goals and an assist last night to put himself two points back behind Rossi's apparent new NHL number one Patrick Kane and Jakub Voracek. Not bad at all for the league's sixth best player.

So yeah the Jagr-less Penguins were indeed playing the Calgary Flames last night. So about 5:46 into the game the Penguins tallied first on a turnover by all-star defenseman Mark Giordano. Kunitz (!!!) intercepted some lazy pass up the middle, Kunitz tipped it to Crosby who found Perron for a wicked snap-shot and the Penguins took a 1-0 lead. David Perron has been a god send for the Penguins so far since his acquisition recording 8 goals and 4 assists in 14 games played. #FireShero. The next goal came from a guy who's name has been in the news recently for underperforming, Brandon Sutter recorded his 11th of the season on an unreal tip-in after winning a faceoff and going to the net. Simon Despres found Sutter with the shot-pass and he redirected it past Hiller. 2-0 Pens.

The next goal came with about eight minutes to go in the second period when Sidney Crosby camped in the slot went to the net and Chris Kunitz found him to give the Penguins a 3-0 lead. While Crosby was skating, he was literally laughing, definitely thinking about what Rob Rossi said on 93.7 The Fan which is also another great shitty local Pittsburgh sports station. Crosby got his 16th of the season with assists from Kunitz and the god-send David Perron to make it 3-0 Pens.

Crosby wasn't done yet. Nope. Crosby really wanted to make Rob Rossi's words sting and remember why Sid is exactly the #BestInTheWorld. So future Norris Trophy winner Kris Letang found a streaking Chris Kunitz (no seriously Kunitz was naked with about how fast he was going), who found Sidney Crosby streaking through the blue line with unreal speed between three Calgary players who roofed it on Jonas Hiller for his 17th of the season and second of the game. Pretty sure Hiller got yanked after that goal too, but hey you guys wanted Fleury gone in the offseason and a guy like Hiller to take his spot. Good job future GMs of the world. Either way, 4-0 Pens. It has been know us here @PensOfAnarchy (follow that on twitter), have not been Chris Kunitz super fans since the whole #JagrWatch broke and the rumors of Kunitz being unhappy surfaced. If Kunitz can play like how he did last night with Sid consistently than he should be with Sid. However, moving Perron over to his off-wing and putting Kunitz there is just meh. GMJR gets the pieces, it's up to Johnston to use them right.

3rd star: Marc-Andre Fleury (21 saves, shutout city)

2nd star: Chris Kunitz (3 assists)

1st star: Sidney Crosby (2 goals, 1 assist) #BestInTheWorld

Now on to our #GameNotes
  • That was Crosby's 100th time being the first star of a game
  • Going by Deryk Engelland's contract $2,900,000 per year... Engelland made $35,365 last night for being a traffic cone
  • Fleury passed Tom Barrasso for most shutouts in a season with eight (but Fleury sucks right?)
  • Chris Kunitz played an inspired, good hockey game, stay tuned
  • Letang took a shot in the jaw but is alive and laughed and took a selfie with Paul Martin after to show they were both alive
  • Good hockey happened

*Next game in like 10 seconds @Vancouver Canucks*
