RECAP. Double J's World. Pens WIN

2

The Hurricanes made their first trip to Consol Energy Center as a member of the Metropolitan Division last night.  The Pens were something like 5-0 against the Canes on Consol so far.  Idk if you heard or not but Brandon Sutter and Jussi Jokinen used to be Canes and Jordan Staal used to be a Penguin.

So far in this young season the Pens had scored the 1st goal in every game.  They had a chance to extend that with an early power play but couldn't cash in.  The would get a 2nd chance when some jobber tripped Tanner Glass after stumbling over his own skate laces.  If you really need to trip Tanner Glass to prevent him from going on an odd man rush you probably should just sit out the rest of the game.  Since league rules prohibit that if you trip Tanner Glass to stop an odd man rush your PK should probably get scored on.  That is exactly what happened.  Best In The World hit Jussi Jokinen with a sick pass.  Double J kicked it onto his stick and back handed it into a yawning net to make it 1-0 Pens.
Amazing.  Great pass by Best In The World as well

The Pens looked like the made it 2-nil when a puck found its way past Cam Ward and into the net.  Apparently Pascal Dupuis kicked the puck in even though no replay angle could see him actually kick the puck.  Whatev.  Rest of the period was pretty meh.

Honestly.  We only really remember 2 things about the 2nd period.  One of them wall the all American American Paul Martin back handing home a rebound.  Brooks Orpik launched a bomb from the point that sprung off the back wall and right to a waiting Paul Martin who out it home.  If you cringe every time Orpik winds up for a shot you aren't the only one.  The only other thing that we remember was Eric Staal working his balls off to deflect a puck by Fleury to make it 2-1.

The Canes came out like a house of fire to start the 3rd.  They were every where.  It was only a matter of time til they netted one.  And the did.  A rebound in front made its way to Nathan Gerbe.  Scuds laid down to try to block it but some how Gerbe reached around Scuds and put it in the net.  9 times out of 10 Scuds blocks that,  2-2.  But that was all the Canes had.  They blew their load too early and didn't have a chance after that goal. It became really apparent after Jussi Jokinen made it 3-2.  He took a sick pass from Malkin and blew it by Cam Ward to make it 3-2.  Olli Maatta notched his first NHL point on the play.  The Pens weren't done yet.  They had their foot on Carolina's throats and didn't let up like they have been known to in the past.  They made it 4-2 when Tanner friggin Glass out worked every Canes player, got his own rebound and roofed one.  Yep.  Tanner Friggin Glass.  Then Double J got the hat trick when he ripped a wrister by Ward to make it 5-2.  Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

1.  Jussi Jokinen
2.  Olli Maatta
3. Tanner Friggin Glass

Stuff:
  • Sidney Crosby might score 9242380 points this year.
  • 2 point night for Olli Maatta.  Its gonna be a shame if he gets sent to Juniors.  Him and Bortuzzo are playing some kind of hockey right now.
  • MAF looks locked in so far.
  • Jussi Jokinen man.  BTW the Hurricanes are paying him still.  Yes.  They pay someone that scored on them.
  • Jeff Skinner still sucks.
  • Go Bucs

Pens next game is Friday at 7:30 against the Florida Panthers

Go Pens
