In 60 days the Penguins will begin the 2014-2015 season against the Anaheim Ducks. Since the idea of this countdown is to post memorable players who wore the jersey number that corresponds with the countdown to hockey, I'M AFRAID I'VE GOT SOME BADDDDDDDDDDDDD NEWSSSSSS. No player in Pittsburgh Penguins history ever wore the number 60 sweater.
When thinking about number 60 in hockey, not many names stick out that have affiliation with the Penguins. Brendan Mikkelson who was in the Penguins minor league system last year wore number 60 with the Anaheim Ducks from 2009-2011. However, if we're talking about players who have worn the number 60 against the Penguins, one name stands out. Goaltender Jose Theodore.
If you're a Penguins' fan the name Jose Theodore should sound familiar. Theodore, goalie for the Montreal Canadians from 1997-2006 wore the number 60 as well as with the Washington Capitals in 2009-2010. It has been his number his whole career, but his most memorable moments against the Penguins were while was with the Canadiens and Capitals.
The date was November 10, 2005 the first year after the 1st lockout (Bettman sucks) and the first season in which the league implemented shootouts. Crosby recorded his first ever shootout goal and the first game winning shootout goal in Pittsburgh Penguins history against goaltender Jose Theodore. The Penguins had a two-goal lead with both goals being scored by Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby. However the Habs came back to tie it, where it was then down the shootout. Crosby came down, did an epic leg kick to throw Theodore off, then went #PoppinBottles with an epic backhand shot to win the game. This was not only significant in Penguins history because it was their first ever shootout win in franchise history, but also because the Montreal Canadiens were Sid's favorite team growing up.
