In 49 Days....

In 49 days the Penguins will open up their 2014-2015 NHL campaign again the Anaheim Ducks. Today we are looking at former Penguins players who wore the number 49. Greg Andrusak, Matt Hussey, Brad Theissen, and Brian Gibbons were the 4 players from Penguins past who wore 49.

Brian Gibbons

Today we are going to focus on the man, the myth, the legend, Brian "The Vanilla Midget" Gibbons. Gibbons joined the Penguins organization on April 4, 2011 when he signed a 2 year entry level contract. The Vanilla Midget didn't get the call up the Penguins NHL squad until this past season (2013-2014). His first NHL game came against the Anaheim Ducks on November 18, 2013. During that game against the Ducks Gibbons pulled a Lemieux and scored his first NHL goal, in his first NHL game, on his first NHL shot.

Malkin on that goal. Goodnight Moon.

Gibbons played 41 games for the Penguins last season, lighting up the score sheet for 5 goals, 12 assists, a +6 rating, and 6 PIMs. He also played in 8 games during the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs scoring 2 goals, registering 1 assist, and 2 PIMs. Gibbons 2  playoffs goals came within a matter of 2:26 of iced time in Game 2 of the ECQF against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

That Blue Jackets OT winner still jams me up. What the hell were you guys doing?!?!

Gibbon's signed a 1 year deal with the Blue Jackets this summer, so he will be no longer #GettingToHisGame in a Penguins uniform. There isn't anything else I'm going to say about Gibbons. This post was put up late because everyone here at the blog was at the #EASHLLockout collective bargaining meetings all day. Either way, it is Thursday night, meaning its #BannerNightLiveTweet time. Thanks to Rammer being a degenerate, we might not have to many more #BannerNightLiveTweet runs left. Tomorrow is 48 so it should be an actual post instead of anti-Rammer rants... actually, there's probably gonna be anti-Rammer stuff on the blog for a long time. Regardless, tune in tomorrow. Until then...
