In 59 Days....

59 days from today, the Pittsburgh Penguins will open up their season against the Anaheim Ducks at the Consol Energy Center. To continue our countdown to Opening Night with our Jersey Number Countdown, today is the #59.

There have been 4 members of the Pittsburgh Penguins who have worn the number 59. Those four players are Robert Dome, Michel Ouellet, Carl Sneep, and currently worn by Jayson Megna.

Since this is the first day that we actually get to pick who we want to write about, we're gonna go with none other than the great....

Michel Ouellet

We know Ouellet wore #7 for most of his Penguins career, but he's our pick at #59 because there are a lot better options at 7. Ouellet played 123 games over 2 seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins right after the first lockout (Bettman Sucks). He scored 35 goals and recorded 45 assists. He also played in the playoffs against Ottawa in 2007 recording 2 assists.

In that 2006-07 season, which the Penguins made the playoffs for the first time since before the X Generation, Ouellet played in 73 games scoring 19 goals (11 of those on the Power play) and recording 29 assists. He had 30 PIMs and was a -3 total on the season, since Plus/Minus is the tell all tell all stat.

Apparantly someone made a Michel Ouellet highlight video on YouTube so we have to share that.

After the 2007 season in Pittsburgh, Ouellet signed as a Free Agent in Tampa Bay in July and then at the beginning of the 08-09 season, he was traded to Vancouver. He played in Europe for two years after that before returning back to North America in which he signed as a free agent with Tampa Bay on July 1, 2011 but he didnt play a single game for the Lightning that season and then was traded to Boston in June for Benoit Pouliot.

The next 3 gifs will pretty much sum up how the Michel Ouellet era as a Penguin went. Tune in tomorrow to find out who will be representing #58. Until then. Go Pens
