Recap: Boston Strong, Toronto Stronger - Upholds Call Pens LOSE

   Well, another 'Rivalry Wednesday' in the books and another game down. The Penguins with help from the stripes fell to the Bruins 3-2 in overtime last night. Despite the loss, the Penguins played very good. In fact, despite not registering a powerplay goal, their zone time was unreal and many times throughout the game you felt as if you were just waiting for them to score. Beau Bennett almost won it in overtime time with some unreal hand-eye coordination as he batted the puck out of midair baseball style and just missed putting it past Rask for the winner. Let us all also recognize that Beau Bennett has played in four straight games and hasn't died yet so that's another plus. Stripes missed a goaltender interference call which took a goal away from the Penguins but in other news grass is green so no surprise there. The Penguins outshot the Bruins 39-24 and although despite a few stupid giveaways, looked like the better team last night.

Anthem Pic

    About 3:30 seconds into the game, Pittsburgh struck first. Evgeni Malkin basically owned the puck behind the net and did some crazy stuff and threw an unreal pass to 'Iron Man' Beau Bennett for his second of the season. Malkin was unreal last night and we got a preview of it very early into the game.  Also, shoutout for Chara for basically doing his best Dion Phaneuf parking cone impression there. Yikes.

@Penguins with the gif.

  However, Chara did do something right. With about two minutes left in the first Reilly Smith got the puck to out to him somehow someway and Chara fired an ABSOLUTE BOMB from the top of the left circle. What a blast. 1-1.

  The second period was pretty quiet for the most part, one thing of note, Christian Ehrhoff received a bullshit holding penalty for playing hockey but I mean it's the Penguins so. Either way, with 4:25 remaining in the second period Bergeron got his first of the night. In all honesty it was a good hockey play by Lucic, who is still a POS but it was worth noting his ability to get the puck to the net. Paille got the puck to Bergeron in the slot and he fired it past Fleury. 2-1 Bruins going to the third.

 Just gonna leave this here.... 15 seconds into the third. Malkin BLAST. The third period was all Penguins. Shortly after Sidney Crosby almost tallied a powerplay goal on a Loui Eriksson holding call but his shot in the words of Doc Emrick, "HE HIT THE POST WITH THE SHOT!@(#*$**&*#&*#@*@#*#!!!!!"

    In overtime the Penguins were all over the B's. The Penguins had some unreal looks and it looked like the Penguins were about to win it on a Beau Bennett baseball swing goal, but in the famous words of Doc Emrick "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Patrice Bergeron ended up getting his second goal of the night and the O.T. winner on what looked like a high stick. We'll let you see for yourself.

Remember, the stick has to be below the level of the crossbar.... it's real close....

  In the coming weeks, we expect to see a Sports Science episode in which the guys show how Bergeron's goal was not a high stick as he tipped it down, and it still went BAR DOWN. Toronto did review the goal and there looked to be hope of it being disallowed but nah. Mike Johnston was shocked.JPG at the end result and Rob Scuderi was practically undressed and in his vehicle by the time stripes announced the decision from Toronto.

3rd star: Evgeni Malkin (1 goal)

2nd star: Tuukka Rask (39 saves, .949 sv%

1st star: Patrice Bergeron (2 goals, OT winner)

   Also wanted to give a shoutout to the Steeler fans. Welcome aboard the Penguins bandwagon, we're glad to have you. Take your Heinz Field mentality and bring it to Consol. The place needs to be louder so we encourage you to be as loud as possible. We may not domestic abusers but we have Steve Downie...
