Whenever the Pens go to Florida and play the Panthers you always expect the worst. If you don't then you clearly haven't watched the Pens enough. Every time the Pens play the Panthers in Florida, the game usually ends with the Panthers skating circles around the Pens and the Pens looking like the don't know what Hockey is. Just look at the 6-3 game from earlier this season. But that's the funny thing about Hockey. You can expect something and something completely different will happen. Like last night. It was Pens/Panthers in Florida and Jeff Zatkoff was in goal. The Panthers put up 6 on Zatkoff the last time he was in goal against them. Last night he looked like a Vezina Trophy candidate.
The Pens got on the board first but only like 6 people saw it because everyone was watching Auburn upset Alabama and the 109 yard missed field goal that was taken back for a touchdown to win the game for Auburn. Tim Thomas was off in la la land probably complaining about something Obama did and left the net wide open for Chris Kunitz who took a pass from Malkin and scored to make it 1-nil Pens. Maybe 9 people saw the Pens 2nd goal because they were still stunned over the Auburn/Alabama game. Joe Vitale got his stick on a puck that was in the air and it trickled over the goal line to make it 2-nil Pens. That was Joe Vitale's first goal in like 93848 games. The Panthers had a few good chances but Jeff Zatkoff was in their mouth. The Pens PK was in Florida's mouth all night too.
The 2nd period was more of the same for the Pens. Evgeni Malkin was on PCP all November. 24 points in like 15 games or something crazy like that. After getting his 1st goal in like 15 games last week against the Islanders, Malkin has been every where and dominating games like only Evgeni Malkin can. There aren't many more beautiful things than watching Evgeni Malkin take over a Hockey game. Yes we hinting that Evgeni Malkin had a hand in the next Penguins goal. He picked up the puck in his own zone, carried it through the neutral zone, dished it to Olli Maatta who dished it right back to Malkin. Malkin took it in and deked Tim Thomas out of his pads to make it 3-nil Pens. Rumor is Malkin was wearing an Obama mask and Thomas got scared. Still trying to confirm or deny.
Evgeni Malkin has a special message for his critics.
It looked like Florida was gonna get on the board but Brad Boyes kicked the puck in. The goal was waived off. Honestly surprised the goal didn't count. There really wasn't much of a kicking motion. Oh well. Florida would get on the board though. Don't really remember how it happened and don't care either. The Pens scored like 24 seconds later. Geno found James Neal who sniped Tim Thomas to make the score 4-1 Pens.
Another one of those 3rd periods where we really don't have to say anything because the Pens went in to suffocation mode. Jussi Jokinen scored to make it 5-1 though so that was cool. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.
1. Evgeni Malkin
2. Jeff Zatkoff
3. James Neal
Stuff:
- 4 Point night for Evgeni Malkin. He is in another world right now. He is only 1 point behind his team mate Best In The World Sidney Crosby for the points lead.
- James Neal is on fire too. He scored his 32904 in his last 5 games last night.
- James Neal and Evgeni Malkin are both catching fire at the same time. Watch out.
- Best performance from Jeff Zatkoff so far this season.
- Simon Despres continues to be solid since being called up.
- Speaking of solid. Another solid performance from Olli Maatta.
Pens next game is Tuesday at 7. The return to the place where Brooks Orpik ended the Islanders season last year. The beautiful Nassau Coliseum. I really hope you all have sarcasm detectors and they work properly.
Go Pens
