MAF In Your Mouth. Pens WIN

The train wreck that is the New York Rangers rolled in to Consol Energy Center for the 1st time this season.  We use the phrase "rolled in" very loosely because we are still waiting for the Rangers to actually show up.  The Pens dominated the Rangers Saturday afternoon behind stellar goaltending by Marc Andre Fleury and the Pens defense. This was probably the best all around game the Pens have played all season.  Should have won 5-0 or 6-0.

1st Period
Pens got on the board first and early.  90 seconds in Beau Bennett launched one by Lundqvist to make it 1-0 Pens.  TK did 3 things all game.  This was one of them.  He chipped the puck into the Rangers zone so Beau could skate on to it.  Best In The World leveled some tool.  It may have been Dan Girardi.  Dan Girardi sucks.  Apparently you can board everyone now and get away with it.  Some joke boarded Dupuis and Best In The World and someone got into it.  4 v 4.  Nothing doin.  Both teams had a power play in the 1st but no dice.

2nd Period
The Rangers decided to actually show up for the 1st few minutes of the 2nd.  Bylsma called his timeout and got the Pens settled down.  The Rangers almost scored some bullshit goal when someone shot the puck, it hit off of Orpik's head and handcuffed Fleury.  The puck fell in the crease and MAF covered up.  He also made a save on Fat Ass (Rick Nash) early in the period too.  Pens would get their chances though but nothing happening.

3rd Period
One goal games are always sphincter clenching.  Especially against a division opponent even when said division opponent is like 14 points behind you.  The game could turn on one goal.  Luckily the Pens didn't let it turn in the Rangers favor.  TK did his 2nd good thing all game when he tried dangling past someone and got tripped.  Yes TK tried dangling.  Yes it was ugly.  But the Pens got a power play so whatever.  First unit was mud.  2nd unit came on and went to work.  Some Ranger lost their stick.  He could have gotten it back but Beau Bennett made a smart play and pushed the stick out of the zone.  It was basically a 5 on 3.  The Pens would cash in.  They waited and waited and waited...and waited some more then finally got their shot off.  TK with a one timer from the area formally known as Oviville.  TK was probably aiming near post.  The puck luckily went far post and beat Lundqvist.  2-0.  Moment later Dustin Jeffrey and Dupuis came in 2 on 1.  Jeffrey fed Dupuis and Dupuis waited for Lundqvist to go down.  Once he did Dupuis roofed it.  3-0.  Rangers were done.  They acted like they cared for 30 seconds but really they didn't.  Game.

3 Stars
1. Marc Andre Fleury
2. Tyler Kennedy
3. Dustin Jeffrey

Stuff:
  • Congratulations to Marc Andre Fleury who set a new franchise record for career shutouts.
  • Beau Bennett got robbed of the 2nd star.  Game winning goal > Goal and an assist.
  • Speaking of Beau Bennett, what a hockey player.  He was creating shit all game.  Ever since being called up he's done nothing but impress.
  • 2 assist afternoon for Dustin Jeffrey.
  • Another big time game from Kris Letang.
  • Big time game from the Pens defense as a whole.  Very few if any second chances for the Rangers.

Bruins in like 12 seconds.

Go Pens
