RECAP. Pens Lose. Wait. Not They Don't. Pens WIN

2. 3

3. 2

What a game.  Really no other way to describe what happened on Saturday night on Consol Energy Center.  There are also no words for what transpired in the shootout too.  It's safe to say that is something no one has ever seen before.

We really don't remember much about the 1st period other than Rick Nash eating about 7 or 8 cheeseburgers.  The Pens did get on the board first on a one timer by Blake Comuea.  It was a pretty soft goal that Lundqvist let in.  If it was Fleury people would be running for their torches and pitchforks.  The Rangers answered right back though.  Lee Stempniak remembered how to play hockey for the 1st time in about 5 season.  It also helped no one cleared him out from in front of the Pens net.  1-1.  The Rangers would take a 2-1 lead on a power play goal by 4 foot 2 Martin St.  Louis.

After not getting a power play in the 1st the Pens got one early in the 2nd.  They really didn't do much with it though.  They game really opened up in the 2nd and the game was really fun to watch.  Both teams were going back and fourth.  Both teams were getting chances but the goalies on both ends were up to the task.  The Pens were able to crack Lundqvist though.  Evgeni Malkin ripped a one time that hit the post, hit Lundqvist, and went in the net.  2-2.

The 3rd period was just like the 2nd.  Up and down.  Lots of chances.  The best part of the 3rd period was definitely this:

Lol.  The MSG people were so butt hurt.  Also lol at them thinking it was immediately a headshot.

Steigy and Errey's view on it.

And for you WWE fans.  This is a thing:

The game would slip to overtime.

Mike Johnston went all in to start overtime.  He loaded up with Crosby and Malkin.  It almost worked.  Someway, somehow the Rangers lost Sidney Crosby.  He got behind the Rangers D and Kris Letang hit him with a stretch pass.  Crosby was in on Lundqvist and tried to go 5 hole but Lundqvist denied him.  Overtime had an unreal pace to it.  The Penguins were up to the pace even after playing the night before.  Things went to 3 on 3 at one point but then Chris Kreider got a jump on the Pens defense.  He was almost in all alone but Rob Scuderi tipped him giving the Rangers a power play.  The Pens penalty killers and MAF weren't giving the Rangers a thing.  The Pens killed the penalty and Brandon Sutter made an unreal shot block, got to his skates and fired a pass to Kris Letang coming out of the box.  Letang was in on a breakaway but Lundqvist denied him as well.  The game would go to a shootout.

We aren't gonna try to tell you what happened in the shootout.  So here is the video.

No idea who the 3 stars were.  We forgot to do this til just now.  Just like Rick Nash forgot to wipe the grease off his hands from the cheeseburgers he ate before he took his shootout attempt.

Pens next game is tomorrow in Montreal at 7:30.  Get ready for the booooooooooooo.

Go Pens
