RECAP. Buffalo. Yikes. Pens WIN

Buffalo.  Buffalo is not a very good hockey team.  In the past we used to love making fun of Buffalo mostly because of Emo Ryan Miller.  He's gone now and the Sabres are just awful.  We honestly felt bad for Jonas Enroth last night.  The Pens did whatever they wanted for most of the game and put 5 behind Enroth.  Without Enroth this game could have easily been 8-0 or even 9-0.  To the recap.

The Pens were in the Sabres' mouth from the opening faceoff.  They got what seemed like the first 3205983 shots of the game.  Then about 4 and a half minutes into the period they put one behind Enroth.  Best In The World took a pass in the neutral zone with speed and flew into the Sabres zone.  He undressed the ever so useful Tyler Myers and tried to split 2 other Sabres but was denied.  Hornqvist jumped on the lose puck and shuffled it towards goal but ENroth made the save.  He couldn't control the rebound and Chris Kunitz pounced on it and beat Enroth to make it 1-0 Pens.  The Pens controlled play for the remainder of the period but couldn't get another one past Enroth.  They did however, limit the Sabres to just 3 shots on goal.

The Sabres came out in the 2nd period and actually looked interested in the game compared to the way they played in the 1st period.  They were the ones controlling the play and were even out shooting the Pens at one point in the period.  It took the Pens about half the period to get back on track and when they did the snowball started to roll.  Blake Comeau absolutely sniped one on Enroth to make it 2-0 Pens.  Super hero Olli Maatta forced a turnover and sent the Pens the other way.  The puck made it way to Evgeni Malkin who carried it into the Sabres zone.  He stopped and fed Comeau who was trailing on the play.  He waited until he got to the Zack Morris NHL 14 glitch spot and sniped one high to give the Pens their 2nd goal.  Then the Sabres broke the golden rule.  Don't put the Penguins on a power play.  The Sabres either tried to cheat or couldn't count to 5.  Both are very possible options.  Regardless, the Pens power play went to work.  Malkin to Kunitz to Hornqvist.  Tic tac toe.  3-0 Pens.

3rd period was kind of whatever.  Sabres went back to looking completely uninterested.  Around 2 minutes in they put the Pens back on the power play after Mike Weber thought it would be a good idea to punch Best In The World in the chin.  Not a good idea.  And the Pens cashed in.  Kris Letang made an unreal shot pass from the point, through unlimited bodies, right to the stick of Chris Kunitz who deflected the puck past Enroth to make it 4-0 Pens.  With about 8 minutes to play the Sabres gave the Pens another power play.  Once again, the Pens cashed in.  Evgeni Malkin launched a bomb from the point.  Enroth had no chance.  5-0.  Game.

1) Evgeni Malkin
2) Chris Kunitz
3) Marc Andre Fleury

Stuff:
  • Evgeni Malkin has a point in every game this season.
  • 3 Penguins are in the top 10 in scoring.  4 in the top 15.
  • Marc Andre Fleury hasn't allowed a goal since the 2nd period of the New Jersey game.
  • Since losing to Detroit the Pens are 4-0 with 3 shutouts and are outscoring the opposition 19-3.
  • The power play is clicking at some unreal mark at around 40% or so.  Give or take a percentage point.
  • After struggling early in the season the Pens PK has found a little bit of a groove.
Next game is Tuesday in Minnesota against the Minnesota North Stars Wild. at 8 p.m.

Go Pens
