Recap. Calgary Got Flooded. Pens WIN.

2

1

The Pens finished their Western Canada road trip with 5 of a possible 6 points. Not bad considering the time change and everything. Pens increased their Metrosexual division lead to 18 points over the Flyers and Caps with the only game in the next 8 days against the Caps. The bad news is that we only get 1 game this week. The good news is that we don't get Paul Steigerwald for a week or so. This layoff could be good for some of the Pens injuries.

The Pens started out like they were skating in mud. Calgary was all on the shit but MAF was there to answer the bell. About 5 minutes into the period, Engellend decided to get jammed up over nothing and dropped the gloves with McGratten. Engo got his bell rocked. Pretty dumb fight honestly. After that though, the Pens really got their shit going. Crosby had two glorious chances back to back, both semi-breakaways but Yogi Berra said no. With about 4 minutes left in the period, some jobber decided the code should've applied to Zach Sill because Sill destroyed him in the corner. That guy decided he was gonna try to fight Sill but Sill pretty much just laughed in his face. While this guy was doing that, he took a delayed penalty and the puck came out to Bortuzzo. Instead of shooting the puck, in which he had a clear lane to do so, Bort dumped the puck down to Kunitz who somehow found an angle and buried a shot past Yogi. That goal is a large reason why Kunitz made Team Canada. What a player. Period ended 1-0 Pens.

The Penguins took a bench penalty earlier in the 2nd, but Calgary didn't remember how to score at that time, so nothing happened. The Pens then got some shit going, Niskanen fired the puck on net and Yogi let it slip past him for some reason and the puck trickled in. Yogi lost his shit for some reason but we aren't really sure. One of the least composed goalies we've ever seen. The Penguins ended up getting a couple powerplays and got some good attempts but Yogi decided he was a good goalie and wouldn't let anything in. Bort got called for holding the stick, but Calgary still can't score. Period ended 2-0 and it was like the 9th period in a row at home the Flames didn't score a goal. Somewhere in the 2nd, MAF made a flopping save with his head.

The 3rd kind of had the same makeup as the game in Edmonton the night before. The Pens got a powerplay but then Geno got called for some jobber penalty. Weak call but you can't put yourself in that situation but MAF was there for the challenge. A couple minutes later, Mark Giordano thought he was something and started skating up ice but he was met by Robert Bortuzzo who almost killed him. Ref called a penalty right away and consensus was it was a dirty hit. Bort ended up getting a match penalty. After seeing the hit again, we think it was about as clean as can be. We'll let you decide.

PPOC was shoulder or elbow to shoulder. Bort did leave his feet, but at the same time the hit happened.
Anyways, during the major penalty, Mike Cameltoe got boarded by Tanner Glass but the ref didn't call it that way and he lost his shit. Right after the 4 on 4 ended, Mikael Backlund scored the first Flames goal at home since Gretzky was in Edmonton or some shit and they acted like they won the Cup. Surprised they remembered which button was the goal horn. Flames were flying after that but the Pens were up to the challenge. Game.

1. Marc-Andre Fleury
2. Mikael Backlund
3. Matthew Niskanen

Notes:
- Niskanen's 5th GWG this year, most of a Pens defenseman of all time
- Fleury incredible once again
- 87 and 71 were flying even though they were kept off the scoresheet, they really made a difference when they were on the ice.

Next game is like 9438 days away vs Washington

Oh yeah and this.
Letang gave Brandon Sutter full exposure on ROOT after the game.

Go Pens.
