Back in the Win Column. Pens WIN

The Nashville Predators made their only visit to Corporate Entitlement Center this season and if you wanted to find a team playing worse than the Pens currently it would be Nashville.  The Pens hadn't won in 3 and I couldn't even tell you the last time Nashville won.  Neither team can score at the moment so this one looked like it may be a barn burner.  Not so much.

Things started in typical LOL Pens fashion when someone shot the puck from the point.  It deflected off of Malkin.  Off of Maatta.  Off of some Predator and into the goal to make it 1-nil Nashville.  Pens came out really sloppy.  Turnover after turnover gave Nashville unlimited chances early.  MAF kept the Pens in it.  But he sucks right.  Pens got a power play but no dice.  After the power play was over the Pens got an offensive zone faceoff.  They ran the Neal Play with Dupuis and it worked.  It was the Pens first even strength goal since the Reagan administration. 1-1.  The Pens got another power play and went to work.  They moved the puck well and got a few shots but no dice.  Then Malkin got the puck at the point and launched a bomb.  GOAL!!  Malkin ends his goal drought!!!  Lol JK.  James Neal had a sick deflection in front to make it 2-1 Pens.

Honestly don't remember much about the 2nd period.  Pretty much the only thing that happened was Kris Letang snuck a shot by Nashville's goalie who's name I've forgotten already.  That made it 3-1 Pens.  Then Brandon Sutter sniped one to make it 4-1.  Not really sure what Nashville's goalie was doing on that goal though.  The only other thing that happened was Tanner Glass hit Eric Nystrom.  The check was clean.  For the record.  Nystrom engaged Glass and there was a fight.  Both guys landed a few punches then Nystrom lost his helmet.  Glass belted Nystrom right above the eye and busted him open.  Nystrom was out of it.  Saw a tweet after the game that said Nystrom didn't know if he was in Pittsburgh or Nashville.  Yikes.  This is the exact reason why we are anti fighting.

The 3rd period was.  Well.  Um.  Whatever you are doing right now is probably more exciting than the 3rd period of this game.

1. James Neal
2. Brandon Sutter
3. Evgeni Malkin

Stuff:
  • The Kris Letang haters were awfully quiet tonight.
  • Saw a lot of people say Olli Maatta had a bad game.  Really not sure why.  I can only recall one bad turnover.  I also recall him taking on 2 Preds on the PK.  Holding the puck and clearing the zone.
  • Evgeni Malkin's point streak rolls on.  He added 2 more assists tonight and sans 1 penalty probably played his best game since the Boston game.  He still hasn't scored a goal since the US only had 13 colonies but hey.  He's contributing.  He was also shooting a lot tonight.  Hopefully a sign of him gaining some confidence again.
  • Deryk Engelland was in the line up for some reason.  Meaning Robert Bortuzzo was in the press box.
  • Pens called up Zach Sill for some reason.

Pens next game is tomorrow in New Jersey at 7.

Go Pens
