RECAP. Luuuuulolololololol. Pens WIN

Last night the puck finally dropped on the regular season.  Hockey that matters is back.  No more training camp, no more meaningless pre season games.  From now on it counts.  Anytime you can get 2 points against a team from the other conference its huge, even in October.  And that's just what the Penguins did last night.  They opened the season in Vancouver and and picked up 2 points.  It wasn't before a few sphincter clenching moments though after they let Vancouver sneak back into the game.  Oh, and Roberto Luango is still Roberto Luango and we love it.

1st Period
Pretty quick pace to start the game.  Both teams were flying up and down the ice.  The game finally started to take its shape when Matt Cooke drew a penalty.  Malkin found James Neal behind the goal line and need went Lemieux style and banked one in off of LOLuango to give the Pens a 1-0 lead.
FAG
Canucks had no clue what was going on.  Soon after they took another dumb penalty.  The Pens cashed in again when The Changed Man Matt Cooke put the puck past LOLuango with 8 seconds left in the power play to make it 2-0 Pens.  The Pens were 2 for 2 on the power play.

The Pens were looking really solid but then MAF had a brain fart.  Lapierre threw a puck at MAF from a horrible angle, the puck bounces off of Fleury's stick, up his leg, past him, and across the goal line.  No clue what MAF was doing but he's always good for 3 or 4 of those at the beginning of the season.  That goal finally snapped the Canucks into the game.  The Sedin sisters woke up and so did the rest of the Canucks.  They were throwing everything at MAF but he was holing the fort.  Late in the period MAF robbed one of the Sedin sisters who immediately began to cry that the puck was in the net.  Of course the play was reviewed but the play stood as no goal and the Pens went to intermission leading 2-1.

2nd Period
The period started with Malkin taking a penalty for putting his arms up to protect himself and Chris Higgins sucks and skated into Malkin's elbow.  The Canucks had a power play but if you were watching the game it looked like even strength.  Then Matt Cooke went busting down the right wing and put one past LOLuango to make it 3-1 Pens.  Matt Cooke had his way with LOLuango last night and LOLuango didn't even care.  Not much happened the rest of the period until Keith Ballard got behind everyone and beat MAF to bring the Canucks within 1 at 3-2.

3rd Period
You knew what was going to happen this period.  It was just a matter of time.  It happened after Malkin missed a golden opportunity in the slot.  Malkin received a pass in the slot and had a chance to snipe LOLuango and make it 4-2.  But Malkin missed and the Canucks went the other way.  The puck made its way to Danielle Sedin who roofed one on MAF to tie the game.  The rest of this period felt like game 7 in Detroit except the Pens didn't have the lead.  The Canucks were all over the Pens but MAF was stopping everything.  Danielle Sedin had a chance to give the Canucks the lead but completely missed everything even though he was about 3 feet away from the goal.  The game would go into overtime.

OVERTIME
During intermission we had to witness this.

That's more of Ryan Kesler than I ever wanted to see.  Guarantee half of the women in Vancouver dropped their panties after seeing this.
Overtime started and the Canucks were still all over the Pens.  They almost scored numerous time and the Pens couldn't get the puck out of the zone.  They finally did and went down and had their chances.  Neither team scored in OT and the game went to a shoot out.

Shoot Out
The first shooter for the Canucks was Mikael Samuelsson.  MAF made the save.
Kris Letang was the first shooter for the Pens and absolutely undressed LOLuango to give the Pens a 1-0 lead in the shoot out.
Burrows was the second shooter for the Canucks and MAF stuck his balls in Burrows mouth.
Then Malkin came and absolutely stole LOLuango's virginity from him.  What a move.  LOLuango had no chance.  That goal gave then Pens the win in the shoot out 2-0 and the win in the game 4-3.

3 Stars
1. Danielle Sedin
2. Matt Cooke
3. Chriss Higgins

No clue who Chris Higgins gave a happy ending to to get the 3rd star of the game.

Quick thoughts
  • Other than the shaky first goal MAF looked sharp
  • Sullivan-Malkin-Neal  man
  • Michaek Island was a minus 3 some how
  • Jordan Staal left the game in the 3rd because he was dehydrated.
Pens next game is in Calgary on Saturday at 10 p.m.

Go Pens
