The Bruins made their second trip to Consol Energy Center Sunday afternoon and it was the 2nd time these two teams played in less than a week. The last time these 2 teams met the Pens scored 3 goals in the last 6 minutes to pull out a victory 3-2. This time they scored early and held on late to win the game 2-1. The Pens almost got on the board first when Best In The World danced around the Bruins defense but Rask made the save. But the Pens got another chance to cash in and they did. The puck found its way to Best In The World in the slot and he rifled it home to make it 1-0 Pens.
The Bruins would answer however when the puck made its way to Tyler Seguin after bouncing off someone in front. Seguin had 3/4 of the net to shoot at. Vokoun had no chance. 1-1. But then the Pens would get some offense from an unlikely source. With under a minute to play Craig Adams threw a harmless shot at the net. The puck deflected off a Bruins defenseman slightly and handcuffed Rask. Joe Vitale was in the right place at the right time and put the rebound home to make it 2-1. The rest of the game was pretty meh. The only other notable thing that happened was Kris Letang didn't play in the 2nd or 3rd period because of a lower body injury.
3 STARS
1. Tomas Vokoun
2. Best In The World
3. Tyler Seguin
Stuff:
- Probably won't know the status of Kris Letang until tomorrow. His teammates said he might have tweaked a nagging injury.
- 30:02 of ice time for Paul Martin. He was also a plus 2.
- Dustin Jeffrey was 62% from the faceoff dot yesterday.
- The Pens are 12 points up on the next closest team in their division. They are running away and hiding.
- Pens/Bruins are by far the best 2 teams in the East. Montreal is a close 3rd. Everyone else is whatever.
- Kunitz, Dupuis, Best In The World all had points yesterday.
Caps come to town Tuesday at 7:30
