The club is interested in Calgary captain Jarome Iginla, a right winger and impending free agent. But he might not fill a top-six role with the Penguins, and Iginla has a no-movement clause in his Flames contract.
Read that again. If the Pens acquire Jarome Iginla, he may not fill a top-six role with the Pens.
Rob Rossi gets paid to write this stuff. Yes, it is true Iginla has a no-movement clause. Yes, it would have to be waived for him to come here. It's not like a Top 6 wing is the most pressing need this team has (defense and bottom-six are more pressing), but it is naive to think the Pens would target Iginla for a checking line role or to play with Brandon Sutter.
Lines would probably look like this if the Pens traded for Iginla (assuming nobody else is traded for him, which isn't probable):
Kunitz-Crosby-Iginla
Neal-Malkin-Bennett
Cooke-Sutter-Dupuis
Glass-Vitale-TK/Adams/Jeffrey
This isn't that hard. Iginla played with Crosby at the Olympics and had a hat trick playing on this line. And, frankly, bumping Dupuis into a 3rd line spot gives that line scoring and the option to bump up Dupuis into a Top 6 role if someone gets snake bit (a la Sykora in 09) or injured. Iginla isn't going to be brought in to shore up 3rd line scoring.
Again, this is just the latest in a long line of crappy columns and articles by Rossi.
