The Pens were back in good ole MSG last night and yes you are reading that score right.  We know.  After the massive dump they took all over themselves on Tuesday it's hard to believe the Pens actually played well enough to shut out the Rangers.  Well it happened.  Tomas Vokoun was lights out all night long.  Pens probably lose this game 7-3 if it was last season.  Not too much happened in this game.  When a team scores 3 goals you usually think it was some unreal game with some decent action.  This one wasn't.

1st Period

The 1st period has been the Pens best friend so far thus season.  Probably about 95% of the goals they have scored have come in the first period.  And once again the Pens scored in the 1st.  We will take the opportunity to point out every good thing Dustin Jeffrey and Simon Despres do when they play.  On the Pens goal Despres made a nice play to control the puck with his skate and feed a nice pass to Malkin on Jagr street.  Money.  1-0 Pens.  Here is the video because nothing else happened that period.  Vintage Malkin.

2nd Period

2nd period was yawnville.  Would have been the perfect period to go get a pizza or beer.  The 2nd period has been the devil this year for the Pens.  But this 2nd period was a snoozer.  No one did anything.  Each team had a couple power plays but couldn't do anything with them.  The Pens would get a power play late in the period that would carry over to the 3rd.

3rd Period

The Pens had a power play to start the 3rd period.  The power play had been mud lately and was already 0-4 or something up to this point.  So nothing was expected to come out of this.  Well we were all wrong.  Sid fired a shot pass right at James Neal's stick.  Deflection city.  2-0.

Dan Girardi sucks.  Remember when we said we would point out everything Simon Despres does good?  Ok we also have to point out when he screws up.  First Depres had a turnover.  Vokoun bailed him out.  No way Vokoun was getting beat tonight.  Then he took a penalty.  "Welp.  Guess Ben Lovejoy will be back on Saturday" had to have been said by numerous people.  But its funny how things work out sometimes.  The Pens killed the power play.  Pascal Dupuis skated like his balls were on fire to chase down a loose puck.  He throws it to open ice where a Penguin was waiting.  Who was it.....Simon Despres.  He walks in on Stunnedqvist.  Fore hand, back hand....Goal.  Stunnedqvist jock strap probably broke one of those new MSG lights.  3-0.  Game Over.

Stuff:

• Other than the turnover and penalty Simon Despres has played well the past 2 games.  Him and Letang have some chemistry.
• Speaking of chemistry Dustin Jeffrey has looked good with Malkin and Neal.  Really hope Boychuk doesn't bump DJ off that line.
• Tangradi sucks.
• The Rangers hit unlimited posts last night.
• Sid had a chance to score on some breakaway form like center ice but Stunnedqvist saved it.
• Power play wasn't awful but still wasn't as good as it should be.  It was like 1 for 5 this game or something.
• Has anyone seen Rick Nash?
• John Tortorella sucks.
