Might as well recap this while its fresh. Pens play again in like 8 seconds. The New Jersey Devils were in town today, a team that always give the Pens fits. MAF was back in net today and had won his last 9 starts after being pulled.
1st Period
First period was pretty much a snoozer. Each team had a few chances. But not much. Pretty sure MAF only had to make like 2 saves this period. Brodeur did have to make some nice saves to keep the game scoreless.
2nd Period
The Pens would get on the board first in the 2nd. The 2nd period has usually been the Pens worst period this season. Originally it looked as if Sidney Crosby had chipped one past Marty but upon further review it was Brandon Sutter getting his first as a Penguin. 1-0. Pens might of had a power play in there somewhere. Not really sure because that's how easily forgettable the Pens power play is. Anton Volchenkov had a horrible turnover right in front of his own goal. Chris Kunitz picked up the puck and it was in the net before Brodeur could even react. 2-0 Pens. And then a testament as to how bad the Pens power play really is. The couldn't get anything going in the offensive zone. Then there was a turnover in the Pens zone and Andy Grenne was in all alone and beat MAF to make it 2-1.
3rd Period
Good teams know how to play with a lead in the 3rd period. The put their foot on their opponents throat and don't move it. The way the Pens had played you half expected them to take their foot off the gas and help the Devils back up. But they didn't they kept their foot on the gas and buried the Devils with 3 more goals in the 3rd. The first came early in the 3rd when Kris Letang fired a bullet past Brodeur to make it 3-1 Pens. A little under 5 minutes later Sidney Crosby would make it 4-1. Vintage Crosby shot. Fired a laser by Marty. Then about two and a half minutes Robert Bortuzzo launched a bomb from the point to make it 5-1 Pens. That was Bortuzzo's first NHL goal. "Shit. Looks like we'll be up here for a while eh Eric"-Ben Lovejoy
