For most of the season so far the Penguins have been banking on their power play to score goals. The power play that has been clicking at over 40% so far. Tonight the Pens scored 3 even strength goals and only 1 power play goal. It was nice to see a little more balance from the Pens this game. HCMJ said it best. Teams are gonna play to not put the Pens on the power play which in turn will open things up even strength. #MikeJohnstonForPresident.
Live shot of pretty much everyone during the 1st period:
With about 30 some odd seconds left Downie 3:16 slid a slick pass into Nick Spaling's DM's and Spaling put the puck in the net. 1-0 Pens
The 2nd period was a bit more exciting. 2 minutes and 8 seconds into the period Brandon Sutter burst into the Wild zone and ripped a shot past Darcy Kuemper to make it 2-0 Pens. Pens gave the Wild a power play but nothing doing there. Then the Wild did that thing that teams are tying not to do. Put the Pens on the power play. It took the Pens all of 11 seconds to cash in. Evgeni Malkin hit Chris Kunitz with an unreal shot pass and Kunitz deflected it home to make it 3-0 Pens. Then things got a little chippy. Ryan Carter decided it was a good idea to try to push Tomas Greiss into the goal well after Greiss had covered the puck. Not a good idea. Tempers flared and somehow the Pens came out of that with a power play.
The power play carried over to the 3rd period. It was pretty forgettable in all honesty. Things continued to get chippy when Kyle Brodziak decided to jump Simon Despres after Despres hit a Wild player. How dare Simon Despres play hockey!!! Brodziak would get an extra 2 and the Pens would go on the power play. That power play didn't go so well either. Nino Neidufiwehfwif got a breakaway and beat Tomas Greiss on the backhand to make it 3-1, thus ending the Pens shutout streak at 205 minutes and some odd seconds. The Wild finally had some life and would pick up the pressure. It looked as if they had scored a 2nd goal but Marcel Goc was playing goalie while some douche had Tomas Greiss in the Yes Lock. Upon further review the puck crossed the line so it looked like it was gonna be 3-2 Pens. BUT the referee caught the Wild player that put Greiss in the Yes Lock and waived the goal off. The "State of Hockey" couldn't understand how call could ever go against them and started throwing stuff on the ice. F off. Pens would ice the game when Patric Hornqvist hit an empty net as Wild fans continued to throw stuff on the ice. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
1) Tomas Greiss
2) Nino Neiifodfwef
3) Mikko Koivu <------ WHAT?!?!?!
Stuff:
- Olli Maatta underwent successful surgery yesterday to remove the potentially cancerous tumor in his Thyroid Gland.
- Robert Bortuzzo was back in the line up last night. He made a couple unreal defensive plays.
- Evgeni Malkin continued his point streak.
- The Pens PK has killed something like 30 or so power plays in a row since giving up that goal to Seguin.
- Pens have won 5 in a row.
- Rob Rossi sucks
Pens next game is tomorrow in Atlanta Winnipeg. It might be cold there.
Go Pens
