Going to Montreal is always a treat. Whether its the fans booing an icing call because how dare you call icing against Montreal. Or PK Subban doing something unreal. Sometimes its even just a good hockey game. We didn't get the first two but we got to see a good hockey game. It wasn't anything spectacular but it was an overall good hockey game. It's always fun to beat Montreal in their own barn too.
This game had a pretty good pace to it to start out. It was back and fourth for a while, and there was about 6 straight minutes of play before a whistle. Montreal had more chances in the beginning but MAF wasn't having any of it. Blake Comeau tried to end Max Pacioretty early in the period. The Pens would get on the board around 8 minutes in. Montreal made a rare mistake in their own zone when some jobber from Montreal fanned on a pass. The puck went right to Beau Bennett who fired it top shelf on Carey Price to make it 1-0 Pens. Not even 2 minutes later the Pens 3rd line would go to work again. Beau Bennett out worked 3 Habs for the puck. He fed Kris Letang, and Letang fired a back door pass to Downie 3:16 who had a wide open net for the tap in. 2-0. Beau Bennett was a machine in the 1st.
The 2nd period didn't start out pretty good for Montreal. Not even a minute into the 2nd, the Pens got on the board again. Common theme here. The 3rd line was in Montreal's mouth. They forced a turnover in the defensive zone and went the other way. Beau Bennett carried the puck deep in to the Montreal zone. He waited until he was almost at the goal line to send his pass out. Root Sports decided it would be a great idea to zoom in on Bennett near the goal line so you had no idea that Brandon Sutter was trailing the play wide open. But Bennett found him and Sutter fired a laser top shelf to make it 3-0 Pens. The Pens gave Montreal a couple power play chances but Montreal couldn't do anything with them. Then Montreal broke the golden rule. Don't put the Penguins on a power play. It was the Penguins only power play of the game and they made it count. Evgeni Malkin put a shot on goal that Carey Price wasn't able to handle. The Pens crashed for the rebound and the puck slid out to Best In The World who tucked it to make it 4-0 Pens
The 3rd period was basically the MAF show and the Penguins putting Montreal in the Yes Lock. Nothing else really to say.
1) Beau Bennett
2) Downie 3:16
3) Marc Andre Fleury
Stuff:
- Last night was shutout number 32 in Marc Andre Fleury's career. It was also win number 299. What a horrible goalie though. Jeez.
- What a game for the 3rd line. Especially Beau Bennett.
- Kris Letang man.
- Simon Despres has been really good this season. Its nice to finally see what he is capable of and not have a shock collar on out on the ice.
Pens next game is Friday night at 7 against the New York Islanders
Go Pens
