The Pens were in Tampa last night for their final matchup with the Lightning this season. Tampa started this season off like 6-1-1 but have fallen faster than Jeff Skinner. Other than giving up 3 power play goals the Pens played a fairly good game even when Tampa started acting like a bunch of babies. Oh. The Kris Letang guy was back in the lineup.
When the Penguins score they do it one of two ways. Early in the period. Or late in the game. This one was early. Brenden Morrow drove to the net and muscled his way past some joke. He got the puck on net and Jussi Jokinen was there to put home the rebound. They would take a second look at it because the puck went in off of Jussi's skate. Still counted. 1-0 Pens. Tampa took a penalty pretty much right after that goal. Pens went to the power play. The first unit looked good but couldn't get anything. The second unit came out and cashed in. TK actually got a shot on net and the rebound went to Pascal Dupuis who beat Ben Bishop to make it 2-0 Pens. The Pens were buzzing again and then Evgeni Malkin did what a lot of us want to do and gave Ryan Malone a slew foot. Pens went to the PK. Tampa cashed in. Don't know who scored. Don't care either. Maybe if Tampa was in the playoffs we'd pretend to care.
Ryan Malone sucks. He took a penalty early in the 2nd. The Pens made him pay.
Letang slid a pass into Iginla's wheel house. He launched a bomb that was apparently deflected by Chris Kunitz. 3-1 Pens. Tampa refused to go away. Beau Bennett got called for hooking. Only reason it was called was because he hooked Stamjoke. Tampa scored again. 3-2. Then things got a little chippy. Some guy named Judas or Gudas or something was running around like an idiot. Some ass hat hit Malkin from behind. Some idiot pushed Brenden Morrow into Ben Bishop and Bishop got jammed up. And BJ Crombeen acted like he mattered. He went off the ice chirping the Pens bench. Dumb ass.
Geno was out for blood. This was probably one of the best games he played all season. Eric Brewer sucks and pretty much gave the puck to Evgeni Malkin. Geno streaked down the right side and shot from a terrible angle. Somehow it went it. 4-2 Pens. Before you could say "Maybe this will wake Geno up" the Pens scored again. Douglas Murray threw one towards goal and Jussi Jokinen got a sick deflection to beat Bishop to make it 5-2 Pens. The Lighting continued to take runs at everyone. That Gudas character got tossed. Then once again BJ Crombeen acted like he mattered. Him and Douglas Murray fought.
If Crombeen takes his helmet of Murray destroys him.
Kris Letang also made his presence felt. He destroyed two Lightning players and then almost scored on the other end. Pensblog has a gif in their recap if you want to see it. Tampa took more penalties and gifted the Pens a 5 on 3. Dan Bylsma put Tanner Glass on the ice. Glass hadn't scored all season. And wouldn't you know it he bangs home a rebound to make it 6-2 Pens. Lighting would scored a garbage time goal. 6-3.
1. Pascal Dupuis
2. Jussi Jokinen
3. Evgeni Malkin
Stuff:
- The new guys all chipped in last night. Jokinen (2g 1a), Iggy (2a), Morrow (1a), Murray (1a).
- Kris Letang was sharp. He looked good and had an assist in 23:31 of icetime
- 3 point night for Pascal Dupuis. He has 20 goals this season.
- TK probably made a record for most times actually getting a shot on goal last night.
- Evgeni Malkin played one of the better games we've seen him play all year. Hopefully he's getting closer to normal.
- Another point for Chris Kunitz.
Pens next game is Saturday at 7:30 against the Panthers.
Go Pens
